I went on the site and saw the powerful African American portrait. The colors were gorgeous. Being an artist I am aware of how difficult it is to mix the right colors on the brown pallet. The use of ocher, umber, blues, purples and touches of cadmium make this stern watery eyed portrait jump from his ensconced position on the canvas. Yes, the face is stern, powerful and successful. Those deeply engraved marionette (laugh) lines are signs of power and success when painted on the male face. I’m not too sure what they represent on the female counterpart. Women are not fond of any deeply etched facial lines or tiny wrinkles. As for the hooded figure with the feel of inquisitional torture, it could be an armor faceplate that protects the viewer from the real intentions of this dark persona. All the pieces have an off kilter feeling that enhances the powerful art message .
